Looking for Spring…

cloudy day

Where does one go when a person is longing for spring and it is -16 below zero outside? You go to the Como Park Conservatory in St Paul, Minnesota!

We took a trip there a couple of weeks ago. It was the perfect “escape” from the weather! It was warm and balmy inside, with the heady scent of blooming flowers everywhere…

I fell in love with the lilies…

I was totally mesmerized by the delicate curves of the petals…

Were reminders how blessed we were, to be able to stand in such a lovely warm place surrounded by everything green, lush and blooming – in the dead of winter…

The peach  flowers in the foreground of the photo below were beautiful but nobody seemed to care for them…

As I was standing looking at them, people would glance at them and exclaim “what an ugly flower” and would walk right passed them. I guess I felt kind of sorry for the flowers so I got down on my knees and really looked at them. People were all around me were taking photos of the lilies but just ignored these little beauties…

I felt drawn to them.  I got down on all 4′s and twisted my head so that I could look up into the drooping tunnels of petals…

It was worth it…

Doesn’t she look carefree?…

She also looks like she is warm! LOL  I guess we can look at her and reassure ourselves that spring IS on the way and some day, we too, will be again wading in pools and streams, but unlike her, we will probably all be wearing some sort of clothing while doing it! :)

Winter Fairies…

There was frost on the windows this morning. The thermometer read -24 degrees below zero.

The following passage by Vera Nazarian seemed to describe this morning so well…

I’m longing for Spring, but Winter has its advantages, too…  :)

Starting a new season…

Last year was a crazy year. I had intended to do so much more blogging here at Blossomedge but it just didn’t happen. During 2013, one of the most wonderful people in my life passed away unexpectedly and quickly… my Dad. I took it very hard… but things seem to be mending now. I am “regrouping” and the sting of him not being here anymore is beginning to lessen.

Blossomedge, and I guess myself also, will be beginning a new season…

For those of you who follow, or at least followed my blog (I haven’t blogged for so long, I guess it is hard to follow something that isn’t there) but for those of you who follow me and know me as a floral cookie designer, you know that I love to make floral cookie bouquets! My cookie e-tutorials have always been about how to take traditional, flat floral sugar cookies and assemble them into arrangements that appear very much like actual floral bouquets…

blossomedge floral cookie bouquetsBut now, I am going to depart from using flat cookies and introduce you to a  new way of baking and preparing/decorating cookies in this upcoming season that will bring a whole new life to your floral cookie bouquets!

I am so excited to share this new season with you! My blog, here at Blossomedge.com, will continue to be about my favorite subject (flowers!) and how to take cookies, candy, and other various sweets and form them into floral shapes that try to capture the essence of their beauty. But there will also be posts filled with photos and lovely quotes about my little “floral friends”, along with a favorite recipe here and there…

To start off the new season, I made a tutorial that will introduce you to a technique for curving cookie dough into various shapes. I will gradually build upon this curving technique with each successive e-tutorial until I reach the end of my instructional e-tutorial series, when I will be showing you how to bake cookie dough into floral shapes, that I am guessing you never thought or even imagined, were possible with cookie dough!

My new e-tutorial, which will be coming out soon, is titled COOKIE CURVES(TM). We won’t be looking at the floral cookie shape in this particular e-tutorial but I will show you how to curve and assemble cookies into adorable shapes such as cute little umbrellas and butterflies, plus much more!…

Cookie Curves

In the meantime, to kick off the new season of Blossomedge, I have combined all current first season e-tutorials (including the DVD Floral Cookie Bouquets) into one complete set titled The Basic Art of Floral Cookie Design. For more information, please click here…

I will leave you with a few photos from my new e-tutorial COOKIE CURVES(TM) that will be coming out soon!…

“And they perfume the air…”   ~ saying based on the quote by George Bernanos

Red crabapple trees line the roadside just west of town. I was determined this morning to get out before it started raining again and take a couple of photos…

It started to mist as I pulled out of the driveway. On the way to the trees, I noticed the creek had swollen beyond its usual boundary…
